Head Turns & Parallax (Adobe Character Animator Tutorial) Character Animator has the ability to move your facial features around as you turn your head. The main two methods for this are the Head Turner behavior, where you draw up to 7 different views separately, and the Face behavior’s parallax parameter, where you move various elements in. I had to reformat my HDD the other day, and now I can't seem to find NDI in the Live Output.I've installed NDI 4 Tools.exe - installed Adobe Premiere (after reading something about this on ACA forums), uninstalled NDI tools, reinstalled NDI 4 tools and rebootet pc - to no avail. List of known issues in Character Animator 3.4 (October 2020)
Issue: A Character Animator scene imported into a Premiere Pro 14.6 project via Dynamic Link and then opened in the Program panel appears with a red tint. The sequence exported from Premiere Pro also has this red tint. Character Animator does not need to be open for this issue to occur.
Workaround: Either switch to the software renderer (in Project Settings, set the Renderer to Mercury Playback Engine Software Only) or use the latest version of Premiere Pro (14.7 or later). If you are using Premiere Pro (Beta), make sure you also install Character Animator (Beta).
If you only need to export a movie of your Character Animator scene, you can export it directly to Adobe Media Encoder or import the scene from the Character Animator project (.chproj) file instead.
Issue: On macOS Big Sur (11.0), the Character Animator scene does not appear when using the AJA T-TAP video device (in the Live Output preferences).
Workaround: Contact AJA Video Systems for additional information on macOS Big Sur compatibility.
List of known issues in Character Animator 3.1 (January 2020)
Issue: If Adobe Media Encoder Version 14.0.1 or After Effects 17.0.2 is launched first and then a Character Animator project (.chproj) file's scene is selected for import into Adobe Media Encoder, After Effects, or Premiere Pro, an Entry Point Not Found error message referencing dvascripting.dll can appear a few times.
Workaround: This message is harmless, and you can just click OK to dismiss the error. To avoid getting this error message, launch Character Animator first.
List of known issues in Character Animator 3.0 (November 2019)
Issue: Crash when clicking OK in the Preferences dialog box if you were previously viewing an open scene in one workspace then switched to a workspace without the Scene panel just before you opened the Preferences dialog box. No project data or changes to application preferences are lost.
Workaround: Make sure you're in a workspace that contains the Scene panel before opening the Preferences dialog box. Alternatively, upgrade to Character Animator version 3.1.
Issue: 'Error opening Illustrator file. (64)' error message appears -- if the file was saved from Illustrator 2020 (Version 24.0) in the Illustrator 2020 format (Version is set to Illustrator 2020 in the Illustrator Options dialog box).
Workaround: In Illustrator, choose File > Save As, specify the file name, and click Save. Now in the Illustrator Options dialog box, set Version to Illustrator CC (Legacy). Alternatively, upgrade to Character Animator version 3.1.
List of known issues in Character Animator CC 1.5 (April 2018)
Issue: If a Character Animator scene is added to the queue in Adobe Media Encoder using the Add Source (+) button and the scene is later updated in Character Animator, the queued scene includes those updated changes to the scene. Therefore the scene does not match the version when it was added to the queue.
Workaround: Add the scene to the queue via File > Export > Video via Adobe Media Encoder menu command.
Issue: Open or import a puppet created in an earlier version of Character Animator. If the puppet has the Particles behavior but no Physics behavior applied, the particles do not emit.
Workaround: Add the Physics behavior to the puppet. The Particles behavior requires Physics to be at or above the same group in the puppet hierarchy that Particle is applied to.
List of known issues in Character Animator CC 1.1 (October 2017)
Issue: While rendering scenes, the scene doesn't show any content and only shows the current background color.
- Click the Refresh Scene button at the bottom of the Scene panel.
- If that doesn't work, try Option-clicking (Mac) / Alt-clicking (Windows) Refresh Scene.
- If you still face the issue, please file a bug report and attach a project or artwork file.
Issue: In an Illustrator file, layers and groups with “Guide” in their name are not interpreted as guides/handles. The content of such files still
Issue: Applying the Draggable handle tag to the top-level origin handle for a puppet does not allow the puppet to be dragged in the scene.
Workaround: If the puppet’s layers are enclosed in a single top-level group, apply the Draggable tag to that group’s origin.
Issue: Face, Keyboard Triggers, and Lip Sync behaviors in projects and puppet files created in earlier (Beta) versions of Character Animator might appear as obsolete. They appear with 'obsolete” after their names when opened in the latest Character Animator. Though they still work, they do not benefit from improvements made in newer versions.
Workaround: If you want to update the obsolete behaviors to the latest versions, and do not have any recordings for them, or if you don't mind losing the recordings, select the puppet in the Project panel. Now remove the obsolete behaviors, and add the newer versions of the behaviors. For the obsolete Keyboard Triggers, replace with Triggers.
If you update the behaviors for a puppet imported from a .puppet file, be sure to export a new .puppet file to share with other users. They cannot be imported into earlier versions of Character Animator once re-exported.

Adobe has released Character Animator 3.0, the latest update to its software for generating real-time puppet-style animation from reference video footage of a live actor.
The release adds support for keyframing animations, a new system of scene cameras, triggerable audio clips, and the option to generate motion lines behind a character.
The update shipped at Adobe MAX 2019 last week, along with the latest versions of Adobe’s other Creative Cloud software, including After Effects 17.0, Dimension 3.0, Photoshop 21.0 and Premiere Pro 14.0.
Mix facial performance capture with keyframed full-body movements
The headline feature in Character Animator 3.0 is new keyframe animation system, which we covered when Adobe previewed it earlier this year.
The system makes it possible to key transforms and other character parameters, and adjust transitions via an in-line graph editor within the timeline. You can see the workflow in this video.
Any set of keyframes can be turned into a triggerable element, making it possible to blend keyframe and performance capture workflows by creating readymade animations that can be fired off in real time.
Other changes: camera positions, triggerable audio and automatic motion lines
The update also makes it possible to set up camera positions for a scene with different zoom, X and Y position and rotation values, and switch between them using triggers.
In addition, users can now assign audio clips to triggers.
There is also a new system for generating traditional cartoon-style motion lines behind parts of a character or props in the scene to accentuate rapid movements.
Users can set the minimum velocity at which speed lines will appear, and control the colour, opacity, width and lifespan of the line.
Updated 21 February 2020: Adobe has released Character Animator 3.2.
What Is Adobe Character Animator
The update adds support for keyframe time stretching, making it possible to adjust the overall duration of a group of keyframes while retaining their relative timing.
Workflow improvements include automatic updating of a puppet’s behaviors when creating a new layer handle, and the option to search the Properties panel for replays.
Updated 19 May 2020: Adobe has released Character Animator 3.3.
The release improves workflow with the timeline, including the option to filter tracks by keywords when working on complex projects, and to adjust the volume of each audio track separately.
The Motion Lines system, which adds tradtional cartoon-style speed lines to animation, gets the option to taper away lines over time as well as fading them out.
In addition, there are a number of smaller UI and workflow changes, listed at the link below.
One other feature not currently listed in the documentation, but mentioned on Adobe’s blog and in its online press conference, is a new set of background puppets.
The puppets – two of which are shown in the image above – are designed for use as background characters whose readymade animations can be triggered during a live performance.
Pricing and availability
Character Animator 3.3 is out for Windows 10, Windows Server 2016+ and macOS 10.13 on a rental-only basis via Adobe’s All Apps subscriptions. They cost $79.49/month or $52.99/month for annual plans paid monthly.
The documentation also refers to the release as Character Animator 2020.2 or the May 2020 update.
