Trump blasts report of imposing ‘martial law’ over election as ‘fake news’

President Trump blasted as “fake news” a report that he inquired about an idea from retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn to impose martial law during a recent White House meeting.

“Martial law = Fake News,” Trump tweeted on Saturday. “Just more knowingly bad reporting!”

The president was apparently referring to a New York Times report about a White House huddle on the 2020 presidential election, which he has repeatedly claimed was rigged against him.

In a Newsmax appearance earlier in the week, retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn — Trump’s former national security advisor, pardoned by the president last month — reportedly urged Trump to institute martial law and “rerun” the election under the military’s watch.

During the Friday meeting, the Times report claimed Trump asked about that idea.

Flynn was present during the Friday meeting, as was his lawyer, Sidney Powell, one of the most outspoken proponents of claims that President-elect Joe Biden’s victory was illegitimate, the report said.

The Democratic Biden’s victory was affirmed by the Electoral College last week.

Early Sunday, Trump fired off another tweet repeating the claim that he was cheated.

“GREATEST ELECTION FRAUD IN THE HISTORY OF OUR COUNTRY!!!” he wrote in the post, which was flagged by Twitter over its “disputed” veracity.
